Vol. 4 No.208
July 26, 2008
Today's Topic: The
Righteous Path
Proverbs 4:18 But the path
of the righteous is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.
Notice that the word of God does not say that the righteous
are like the light of dawn, that shines brighter and brighter. It is the path that shines.
This is very practical
for us, especially when we are uncertain about our direction. During these times, we can take our minds off of the choices,
and refocus on Christ Jesus. He is our path.
We might sincerely pray, "Lord, we do not know where You are
going, how do we know the way?" (Jn 14:5) We will want the Lord to tell us, "Go this way" or, "Go that
way." But first, and always, He wants us to trust Him, rest assured that He will direct us.
Jesus said, "I
am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Creator but through Me. (Joh 14:6) I might respond, "Yes,
Lord, I know, but that is not what I am talking about. What should I do in this circumstance?"
But it is
through each situation that the Lord is leading us in His way. We will see as we look to Jesus, the path of the righteous.
And to do this, we set our request down as His feet, and leave it there, trusting Him.
Anxiety will bring it's
assault. But we have the promise of God's word to stand on: Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication
with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard
your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Phi 4:6-7)
He may have us wait a considerable time, and fight, until
we are firmly established in His peace. He may give the peace to trust Him and make the decision immediately. The point is,
when we seek Him, we are on the path of the righteous.
Often, we already have His direction, but do not hear
it because we haven't given our will over to Him. When we ask the Lord for direction, we need His grace to be
willing to do His will, or we are in the crooked darkness.
Lord Jesus, You are the way. Help me to trust You,
and not to get bogged down in my own understanding. Thank you for Your word, and Your peace that passes all understanding.
Amen
